The Expediting Technology Professionals Labor Market Integration (ETPLMI) Project was a collaborative project by Technology Professionals Canada (TPC), a partnership of the provincial regulatory bodies in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan and Quebec.
The outcomes of the project supports engineering and applied science technologists and technicians educated in other countries, who plan to come to Canada, to build a new life for their families and, in the process, contribute valuable skills that help drive economic growth and prosperity. The project also addressed a relatively untapped opportunity to facilitate the migration of valuable technical skills from Canadian retired military personnel to private sector occupations where those skills are in greatest demand.
This was an important project as it supports the strengthening of Canada’s skills inventory in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and builds diversity in Canada’s science STEM-related technology professions.
Since it’s implementation the project has experienced several positive outcomes including the expedited certification process for Internationally Educated Technology Professionals and technically trained Canadian military personnel and veterans; as well as increased potential for re-purposing valuable technical expertise of military personnel and veterans transitioning to civilian careers.
