Proper tagging of fire protection equipment and systems is an important professional responsibility of Registered Fire Protection Technicians (RFPTs).

ASTTBC has developed a new instructional video demonstrating the proper completion and application of an inspection tag, using a portable fire extinguisher as an example. The same principles apply across all RFPT endorsements.

The video walks through the information that must be included on an inspection tag, including equipment identification, inspection and next service due dates, inspection results, and the RFPT professional seal and signature. It also explains how to complete the tag for different inspection conditions and what to do when equipment has a critical deficiency requiring immediate intervention.

RFPTs are also reminded that tags must never be reused or altered, and should not be pre-stamped or pre-signed. Incorrectly completed tags must be destroyed and replaced.

Clear and accurate tagging supports public safety, regulatory transparency and professional accountability.

Watch the video above to review the proper completion and application of an RFPT inspection tag. We hope you find this video helpful and that it serves as a useful resource in your day-to-day practice.
