Minister Bruce Ralston Drops in at ASTTBC Member Meeting; Talks Tech Careers
The Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology, Bruce Ralston (MLA for Surrey Whalley) attended an ASTTBC reception at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford and connected with many of the 100 members and guests. Bruce noted the important role of ASTTBC engineering technologists, technicians and technical specialists and indicated that Government appreciates the contribution of ASTTBC’s Technology Professionals. The Minister also commented on recent announcements for technology programs at the College of New Caledonia (Prince George), Okanagan College (Kelowna) and Camosun College (Victoria). ASTTBC CEO John Leech indicated that the program announcements were welcomed as there is a shortage of technical skills in BC. “We encourage the BC Government to continue to move forward in approving new tech programs as employers are struggling to find the needed technical talent,” said Leech. “Organizations such as Northern Technology and Engineering Society (Heather Robertson, AScT is President) have been calling for the program for many years so they were delighted with the recent announcement. CNC has other technology programs in the process for approval, and ASTTBC is supportive.”
