ASTTBC Connects in the Okanagan

Bruce Stevens, AScT, Regional Manager in the Okanagan shares this report on ASTTBC’s strategic activities in the Okanagan Region.

ASTTBC & BC Safety Authority
ASTTBC attends BC Safety Authority Annual Public meeting on May 31st, to show support for the strong professional relationship between ASTTBC and BCSA. This is evident from the numerous areas of interest in safety and regulation. Being a part of this annual event allows opportunities for numerous, productive and engaging discussions in areas of mutual interest.
ASTTBC & Science World BC
ASTTBC and Science World co-hosted community consultations with ASTTBC’s Bruce Stevens, AScT and Joanne Coggan, Science World Manager of Community Outreach on June 20. This community consultation was held in Kelowna, at the new Okanagan Center for Innovation. The 18 participants were leaders from industry, secondary & post secondary education, science advocacy groups and other professional associations. The objective was to assist Science World in their future plans to engage at the community level. Excellent dialogue and planning options were created which Science World will consider when developing their new five-year plan.
For the second year, ASTTBC Okanagan members joined with APEGBC Okanagan Chapter to co host the annual Golf Tournament at Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna on July 14. Thanks to Phil DeVries, AScT (ASTTBC Kelowna Community Representative) and Jeff Collins, AScT (ASTTBC Council Member) who did so much work to help make the event another great success. Todd Blackstock, AScT and Gerry Born, AScT also worked behind the scenes to help bring in donations and sponsorships. All proceeds from donations and sponsorships were shared 50/50 between ASTTBC and APEGBC, resulting in a nice boost to the ASTTBC Foundations funds. This co hosting came about in 2016 as a result of a very strong and mutually supportive relationship which has been developed in the Okanagan between ASTTBC and APEGBC.
