Is Privatization of Our National Ports and Airports in Canadians’ Best Interest?
Last year, the Honourable David Emerson’s review of the Canada Transportation Act advocated big changes in how our major seaports and airports are owned and controlled. Since then the government has moved in the direction of Dr. Emersons’ recommendations by engaging advisors on privatization. It is also creating a Canada Infrastructure Bank, which featured in the election platform of the Liberal party.
Two months ago CILTNA’s Pacific Chapter worked with the organizers of the fourth Cargo Logistics Canada conference in Vancouver, to present a 75-minute seminar titled “Is Privatization of Our Ports and Airports in Canadians’ Best Interests?”. You will find a useful airing of the issues surrounding seaport and airport privatization in the published Proceedings of the Seminar here.
