MLA Darryl Plecas drops in on ASTTBC to talk “TechWorks”

The concept of a Technology Workforce Resource Centre was the focus of a discussion between MLA Darryl Plecas (Abbotsford South) and ASTTBC CEO John Leech. Darryl Plecas is the Parliamentary Secretary to The Honourable Michelle Stilwell, Minister of Social Development and Social Innovation. “The concept being advanced by ASTTBC is a hub from which to provide services to specific groups that are under-represented in the workforce,” said Leech. “ASTTBC proposes to expand the foundational services already offered for First Nations, women, newcomers with foreign credentials and youth. We also see engaging people with disabilities, single parents and others who might benefit from a career in engineering and applied science technology.”

As Parliamentary Secretary Darryl (left in photo) is an appropriate connection for ASTTBC as the Association works to enhance its role in providing professional certification for technologists, technicians and technical specialists. “Darryl Plecas has come to know ASTTBC and its mandate and achievements as well as the contribution made by ASTTBC’s over 10,000 registrants. We can count on Darryl to take our idea seriously and help advance the concept for full consideration,” concluded Leech.
